Afonso Matias Pereira was born in the Algarve and grew up passionate about football. It was around the age of 14 that magic entered his life, though even he is not quite sure how. He only remembers the curiosity: learning a few tricks to show to family and friends.
In secondary school, he changed schools. He knew one friend there. He was shy and lacked confidence. Until that friend, perhaps without thinking much about it, told others that Afonso enjoyed performing magic and already used it to amaze his football friends. During school breaks, he started showing a few tricks. And suddenly, he stopped being just Afonso and became “The Magician.”.
The turning point came when he saw Luís de Matos perform live. That was the moment he realised his place was on stage. What started as a hobby became a life goal. First came children’s parties and holiday camps. Then hotels, restaurants, and bars. Later, weddings, private parties, and corporate events.
Then came the pandemic. The world, as everyone knew it, stopped. But it was online that Afonso found a new way to share his passion. He created content, performed magic, and began seeing results he had never imagined before. To support the dream, he started his own business. And fortunately, the hard work began to pay off.
Today, what was once part-time has become full-time. Afonso The Magician now makes a living from magic. And he still believes that every performance is an opportunity to transform an ordinary moment into something unforgettable.
